ALITA South West
Action Learning in the Arts
Action Learning in the Arts South West (ALITA SW) is a year-long organisational development programme for up to 15 South West arts organisations. ArtsMatrix Ltd. is working in partnership with TMPL Consultants and A+MT to bring this ground-breaking and hugely successful programme to the South West.
We’re planning the programme now for kick off in Spring 2007. If you think your organisation could benefit from being involved, contact us at info@artsmatrix.org.uk
ALITA is designed to strengthen its participants’ organisational capacities and to embed them within a practical commitment to the most important resources arts organisations possess: their people and their programmes.
The programme was developed to move the participants through the following specific phases:
introduce participants to collaborative working
look at the artistic vision and how that impacts on everything the organisation does
setting objectives
organisational development planning. (This is the main chunk of the programme looking at every area of the organisation: the board; the business plan;
development needs analysis for the organisation, teams and individuals; recruitment, motivation, appraisal, succession planning, organisational growth
and exploiting intellectual capital)
accessing specialist skills stakeholder relationships
involving board members
ALITA has run successfully twice in the West Midlands and ALITA3 is currently running in London, with participants including African & Caribbean Music Circuit, Graeae Theatre Company, London Bubble, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company and Talawa. The programme has been designed and developed by TMPL consultants and was originally commissioned by West Midlands-based Arts+Media Training (A+MT).
Feedback on the first two ALITA programmes has been tremendously positive and we anticipate that, like ALITA3 in London, the programme will quickly ‘sell out’ in the South West. We’re keen for organisations, large and small, from across the region and across all art forms to be represented. Get in touch with us at info@artsmatrix.org.uk to register your interest and we’ll keep you updated as the programme develops.
“The value of ALITA2 has been understanding that organisational development is not an end in itself; it is about concentrating on delivering the art and creativity…It has made me more realistic about the things you can change…it has rekindled in me the joy of learning…I’ve read more, looked at other artforms and that has been fantastic” Derek Purnell, CEO, Birmingham Royal Ballet
